A split level contemporary extension to this 1930s street-fronting house extends deep into the rear garden to capture spectacular views of Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick, while opening up to the sunlight. The new and existing parts are visually separated to allow both have their own identity and bring clarity to the history of development. The house remains reserved on the streetscape and more open and transparent to the rear, all of which is articulated through form and materials.
The project was a collaboration with Helena McElmeel Architects.
